Journeys further North to Iceland are inspiring this recent series of paintings and etchings. The experience of such elemental vastness is resulting in large works which attempt to show the scale of impact on the senses. The land itself is continually scored by melting water from the ice caps and this erosion and its visual effects is a living embodiment of the etching process. Exhibitions: 'Northlandings' at The Meffan Institute, Forfar. 7th August until 4th September, 2010. Multi-layered textural paintings and etchings created from journeys North to Iceland via the Uists, Orkney and Shetland. Interest in the archaeological and coastal has evolved into the geological and glacial, uncovering on the way a kinship of land and language among people living on the margins of the North.. 'Sea Spirit' at Gracefield Arts Centre, Dumfries. 7th August until 18th September, 2010 The sea is the universal theme explored in a new and diverse exhibition that includes contemporary painting, jewellery, ceramics, textiles, printmaking and poetry.
